Food Resources and Nutrition Education

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture–administered program that provides monthly food benefits to low-income individuals and families to help them afford nutritious groceries and improve food security. It operates through state agencies under federal guidelines, offering resources like eligibility information, nutrition education, and tools such as Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards for use at authorized retailers.

The Colorado SNAP Produce Bonus is a state program that automatically gives SNAP recipients in Colorado a dollar-for-dollar reimbursement on eligible fruits and vegetables purchased at participating retailers, added back onto their EBT card (up to $60 per month) that can then be spent on any SNAP-eligible items.

The Food Bank of the Rockies uses a Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP) model, a nutrition guideline system from Healthy Eating Research to help partners offer more nutrient-rich foods like fresh produce, proteins, and dairy, guiding choices with a stoplight system to promote healthier options and combat chronic disease through better diets, working with pantries and healthcare to connect people to better food for improved health.
